------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sunrise MUCK's Spirits / Supernatural Policy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q. Is there a common religion or faith among characters in the MUCK world? What are spirits? What about magic? A. There is no global religion. You are welcome to RP your character believing or not believing whatever you like. One common theme is the belief in spirits and 'magic'. Spirits are thought to be the souls of the dead and can be good or evil. Some believe that spirits live in another world; others believe they walk invisibly among the living. Some believe that evil spirits are responsible for illness or bad weather, while good spirits are the cause of good fortune. Many lions believe that the stars are the homes of the Great Kings of the past, as well as or instead of other spirits. The belief that there is only one God is not common. Many characters do not believe in any spirits or gods at all. There is no magic in the Harry Potter sense! However, anything our characters don't understand may be attributed to magic. For example, many characters think of medicine (with herbs or prayer or both) as magic. Q. What's the muck policy on the supernatural? Do ghosts exist? Can my character be a mystic who communicates with the other world? A. In-character, no-one really 'knows' what the deal is with the supernatural. ;) It is not the major theme of this muck, but there are plenty of opportunities for RP based on the belief in it. The line to draw is that you can only pose things happening that can ICly easily be explained in non-paranormal ways. For example, you can pose your character supposedly seeing ghosts or being visited by the spirit of a dead ancestor - but there shouldn't be any outward proof to others of the ghost actually being there. Be prepared for other characters to think of yours as a headcase if you choose to do this. XD The same rules apply to mytics and shamans. You are welcome to make your character a mystic so long as they never manage to prove that they are really doing what they say in terms of any communication with spirits. Other characters can believe in them, but the mystic shouldn't be able to demonstrate anything that makes even sceptical characters go "woah!" As with lots of things on Sunrise, common sense and a dedication to telling a story through your RP will serve you well. :D ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Questions?
