============================================================================ Sunrise MUCK - Staff Guidelines ============================================================================ In addition to the rules that apply to all players (see News Rules), there are some additional common-sense guidelines that apply to admin, including helpstaff and wizards... 1. Following the rules You must follow the rules for ordinary players of Sunrise. Being staff does not mean you are above the law. 2. Connecting regularly You must connect your staff character to Sunrise regularly and spend a decent amount of time on duty, available for players who need your help. Ideally you should connect every day, but you risk being removed from the staff list if you do not connect for a month or more without warning. You should also be logged in for an minimum of ten hours per week on average. If you will not be able to connect to the MUCK for a while or not be on as often as usual, please let the rest of the admin know - this shouldn't be a problem within reason. 3. Conduct You must hold yourself to a high standard of personal conduct. This includes being polite, patient and friendly at all times, and applies to you as a player on any character, not just your staff character. 4. Disputes If a dispute arises between players and you are asked to mediate, you should make a special effort to be as fair and patient as possible, and you must not be biased in favour of a friend. Above all, strive not to lose your temper, even if everyone else has lost theirs. If you feel unable to deal with the situation, ask both parties to pause any RP and not to discuss the subject any more until someone else can step in. In any case, if the dispute is anything more than a minor snipe, please let all the other admin know so they can respond appropriately if there is any more trouble. Fortunately on Sunrise this sort of thing very rarely comes up. :) 5. Using powers responsibly You must not abuse your staff powers. They are there to enable you to help other players, not to give you an edge over them. This includes using your mage bit or wizbit to snoop on people or manipulate characters, rooms or objects without the owner's permission, etc. It also means not abusing your authority, which includes keeping private information private, not telling others what to do without very good reason, and so forth. 6. Privacy If you know a player's personal information or who their alts are, no matter how you learned them, that information should not be spread outside the admin team. If you're asked, suggest that they ask the person themselves. Similarly, any discussion between the admin should stay between the admin, including all WizChat natter! 7. Discretion and common sense On rare occasions, you may find you need to use your bit to manipulate something without the owner's permission, as in the example of an object with an offensive description. In such circumstances, you need to use your discretion. Move or edit where possible rather than deleting outright. In any case, please let the headwiz know as soon as you can. The same goes for players you are forced to @jail or @boot. 8. Know your stuff You should be familiar with news files, particularly the rules and AUP. You should also try to be aware of current events, such as keeping up to date with the web forums. If you are asked something to which you don't know the answer, be honest and direct the person to someone you think is more likely to be able to help. 9. Be useful You must be useful to the MUCK. If others ask for your help, especially newbies, always do what you can for them. Being useful also includes contributing to MUCK development where you can (be it coding, TPs or whatever), and generating as much RP as possible. You may in theory be removed from the staff at any time and for any reason, but unless there is a big problem or you haven't connected for a long time, we will try to sort any problems out with you before they become serious. You needn't worry about losing your bit for accidentally turning the headwiz into a warthog, so long as it WAS an accident. ;) If in doubt about what to do about something, or you need help yourself, don't hesitate to ask other admin. And if anything in these rules is unclear or you disagree with it, please let us know. :) Game on! ~ Afya ============================================================================ Please do not copy these guidelines without permission. ============================================================================
